Engineering (BS Degree)

A major in Engineering consists of 92 hours and does not require a minor.  If a student chooses a minor, they may not choose Applied Computing Track: Computer Programming, Applied Physics or Math with a Computer Concentration; they may not choose Applied Physics or Math with a Biomedical, Electrical or Mechanical Concentration. 

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, www.abet.org, under the Engineering, General Engineering, Engineering Physics, Engineering Science, and Similarly Named Engineering Programs Criteria.

  • See Liberal Arts Core (LAC) for all bachelor degrees  ; must include the following courses:
  • MATH 221 - Calculus I  

    (Students lacking an appropriate mathematics background may be required to take Math 110 or 111 and/or Math 130  prior to enrolling in Math 221 . These courses do not count towards the hours required in the major.)
  • IMPORTANT DEPARTMENTAL POLICY: A student who has received credit for a Mathematics course numbered MATH 221 or higher may not subsequently take a 100-level Mathematics course for credit.

Foreign Language requirement (hours included above)


Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201.  If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit.  Note that this placement does not count toward the required 120 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students.

Choose one of the following courses:

  • ASL 110 and 110L or
  • FREN 110 and 110L, 120, 201, or 202 or
  • SPAN 110, 111, 112, 113 and 110L, 101, 102, 120, 201, or 202 or
  • CHST 121, 122, 131, or 132 or
  • Any other 3 hour foreign language course.

Graduation Credit Hour Requirements

  • All students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate.

  • Students who have taken MATH 099 or ENGL 099 must complete at least 124 credit hours.

  • Students who have taken both MATH 099 and ENGL 099 must complete at least 128 credit hours.

  • All students must also satisfy the Residency Requirements  as outlined in this catalog.
