A major in Biology consists of 27 - 32 semester hours in Biology courses. Emphases in General and Professional are offered. An emphasis is required. Courses from other departments are also required as shown below:

Liberal Arts Core and additional 100-level requirements

BIOL 141 - Zoology (4 hours) (see note below)
BIOL 142 - Botany (4 hours) (see note below)
MATH 111 - College Algebra (3 hours)
MATH 130 - Precalculus (4 hours)
CHEM 121 - College Chemistry I (3 hours)
CHEM 122 - College Chemistry II (3 hours)
with labs:
CHEM 123 - College Chemistry Laboratory I (1 hours)
CHEM 124 - College Chemistry Laboratory II (1 hours)
COIN 209 - Introduction to Computer Systems (3 hours)

Note:

All students placed in ENGL 099 and/or MATH 099 must complete the course(s) successfully before being allowed into BIOL 141 or BIOL 142 .

Major Emphases (select one)

General Biology

BIOL 210 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (4 hours)
7-8 hours of approved Biology electives, of which a minimum of 4 hours must be at the 300/400 level to meet residency requirements. Two 3-hour 300/400 level Biology courses, or one 4-hour 300/400 Biology course will complete the residency requirements for this major
CHEM 117 - Elementary Organic Biochemistry (4 hours)

Note:

Biology 216 will fulfill the 210 requirement. Biology 215 is an approved Biology elective. Biology 110 is not an approved elective.

Professional Biology

BIOL 323 - Cell Biology (4 hours)
7-8 hours of approved Biology electives
CHEM 301 - Organic Chemistry I (4 hours)
Either
CHEM 302 - Organic Chemistry II (4 hours) or
CHEM 311 - Biochemistry I (4 hours)
