Mission Statement

The Charleston Southern University School of Business prepares students for productive roles in business and society through exceptional teaching, distinguished by the integration of best business practices and timeless biblical principles.

The goals of the School of Business are to:

  • Encourage students, faculty, and other constituents to conduct their personal and professional lives according to biblical principles and to glorify God in all that they do.
  • Foster excellence in instruction, scholarship, service, and professional activities.
  • Attract and retain highly-motivated, qualified, and supportive faculty who model standards of high achievement, exceptional work ethic, and leadership.
  • Develop and provide programs that meet the rapidly evolving needs of the professional workplace including an awareness of the global business environment and proficiency with current technology.
  • Graduate students with a strong academic, social, and ethical foundation.
  • Equip students with the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and function successfully in culturally diverse settings.
  • Assist students in academic and career planning, and to establish lifelong mentoring relationships.
  • Establish mutually beneficial relationships with the business community and professional organizations.

Accreditation  

Charleston Southern University has received specialized accreditation for its business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), located in Olathe, Kansas.  The business programs in the following degrees are accredited by the IACBE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with emphases in Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration degree with emphases in Management and Marketing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Economics.
  • Master of Business Administration with emphases in Accounting, Finance, Organizational Development and Management Information Systems.

Admission to the Professional Program in the School of Business

In order to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, the Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration, or the Bachelor of Science in Economics, a student must be admitted to the Professional Program in the School of Business. Students who are seeking admission to the Professional Program in the School of Business, and who are seeking permission to take 300/400 level business and economics courses must have at a minimum:

  1. Completed 45 hours of coursework, exclusive of Bridge Program courses,
  2. A 2.0 grade point average on all courses to be credited towards the degree,
  3. Completed the following courses:

ENGL 111 English Composition and Rhetoric I 
ENGL 112 English Composition and Rhetoric II 
COIN 209 Introduction to Computer Systems  or COIN 211 Introduction to Computers for Business Applications 
BUSI 211* Principles of Accounting I 
BUSI 212* Principles of Accounting II 
ECON 211 Principles of Microeconomics 
ECON 212 Principles of Macroeconomics 

* Students majoring in Economics are not required to take BUSI 211  and BUSI 212 .

Prior to admission to the Professional Program, the department chair may approve one transitional semester during which a student may enroll in 300/400 level business and economics courses while completing the preprofessional requirements. In order to qualify for a transitional semester, students majoring in Business Administration must have satisfactorily completed at least six of the eight required preprofessional courses listed above. In order to qualify for a transitional semester, students majoring in Economics must have satisfactorily completed at least four of the six required preprofessional courses that they are required to take.

Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the Professional Program in the School of Business. Nondegree seeking students who desire to take 300/400 level courses may do so if they meet the general admission requirements of the University and have been granted permission to take the courses by the Dean or Department Chair.
