Major Concentration (45 hours)


A combination of courses from the following fields of which five of the courses must be at the 300 or 400 level.:

Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics*, Nursing**, Physics, Computer Science

* Mathematics 201 and 202 do not count for this major.
** Only former nursing program students may use nursing courses. Students earning this degree may not take the nursing license exam.

Minor Concentration (21 hours)


A combination of courses from the following fields:

Select (1) Humanities and Fine Arts OR (2) Social Science

  1. Includes: Art, Communication, English, Foreign Language (any), Philosophy, Religion
  2. Includes: Business Administration, Economics, Education, Geography, Kinesiology, History, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology
     

Interdisciplinary Programs


Interdisciplinary majors and minors are offered with general concentration options in three academic areas: Humanities and Fine Arts, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. All prerequisites must be met for all courses attempted for these majors and minors. Minors offered within this program may only be used in combination with the specific majors offered in this program. A minimum of 125 hours is required for graduation. Students must also meet the Residency Requirements  as described in this catalog.

Major Concentration

In addition to the Liberal Arts Core, 45 hours must be selected from courses listed under the major concentration. A limit of 5 courses may be taken in any of the department areas. For the Natural Science major, 5 of the courses must be at the 300 or 400 level.

Minor Concentration

In addition to the Liberal Arts Core, 21 hours must be selected from courses under one of the two minor concentrations listed. A limit of three courses may be taken in one of the department areas listed.

Recognition of Credit Earned which Satisfies Requirements in both (1) the Major and (2) the Minor or Second Major*


  1. Credit hours earned for any class are only counted once in the cumulative hours used for graduation, and are counted once on the student’s transcript.
  2. Credit hours earned for a class required in one’s major that also meet the requirements in one’s minor or second major may be recognized in both areas subject to:

During “degree checks” or “degree audits,” credit hours which meet the requirements in more than one area (including Liberal Arts Core) will only be counted once toward the 125(+) hours needed for graduation.

Exception: The School of Business will apply the above policy except as follows:

Undergraduate students with a major in Business Administration and a minor (or second major) in Economics may not use the same upper level courses (300/400) to satisfy requirements in both areas.

* Interdisciplinary programs have different rules regarding the application of major, minor and liberal arts core credit. Refer to the Interdisciplinary Programs section of this catalog for details.
