Music (Piano) (BA Degree)

The major Music (Piano) consists of 38 hours and requires a minor.   A minimum grade of “C” must be earned in all courses listed under Major Studies and Area Specific Studies, with the exception of Studio Lessons and Ensembles, where a minimum grade of “B” must be earned.

Note: Concert Attendance (MUSI 001) is required any term the student is taking Studio Lessons.

Area Specific Studies: Studio, Piano and Ensemble Requirements (19 hours)


·  Studio MUSI 281-482 30  (8 hours) (8 semesters of Studio Lessons required including 6 semesters at the 200 level; may include 1 semester of MUSI 151 30 , MUSI 187,  or MUSI 188 )

·  Studio MUSI 181-482   (3 hours) secondary instrument/voice for piano primaries

·  Ensembles MUSI 121    (8 hours)

Dismissal from Program


If a student is unable to successfully pass on the second attempt Biology 210, Music 241 and 371, or a required course listed under Major Studies, he or she will be dismissed from the program. A student may also be dismissed from the program at the discretion of the music faculty for reasons including, but not limited to, a pattern of poor academic performance; observed deficits in interpersonal, critical thinking, or music skills; unacceptable personal responsibility or professional behavior; or lack of necessary skills, insight, or understanding related to pursuing a career or further study in music. Please refer to the Horton School of Music handbook for related policies.

Note:


All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
