Aeronautics: Professional Pilot (62 hours) + Liberal Arts Core (48 hours)

• CSCI 210 - Introduction to Computer Science through Robotics (3 hours) (preferred course)
• MATH 130 - Precalculus (4 hours)

• Note: MATH 110  or MATH 111   is a prerequisite to MATH 130. 

• AERN 240 - Aviation Weather (4 hours) (This course will count as 4 hours toward the major.  The remaining 4 hours must be taken from one of the following disciplines:  Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics.)

Foreign Language requirement (hours included above)

Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201.  If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit.  Note that this placement does not count toward the required 125 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students.

Choose one of the following courses:

• ARAB 110 and 110L, 120, 201, or 202 or
• FREN 110 and 110L, 120, 201, or 202 or
• SPAN 110, 111 or 112 and 110L, 101, 102, 120, 201, or 202 or
• CHST 121, 122, 131, or 132 or
• Any other 3 hour foreign language course.

Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certification

Students must earn 60 credit-hours or more of Aeronautics course work to qualify for the FAA Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certification.

Dismissal from the Program

Dismissal from the Program

A student will be subject to dismissal from the Professional Pilot program under any one of the following circumstances:

1. A student does not earn a grade of “C” or better in each aeronautics course.
   • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ground courses (AERN 160, 260, 270, 460 and 490) are divided into “stages” of learning. Students who earn a grade of 79% or below on their stage exams will be counseled and tutored, must retake the exam, and must earn a score of 80% or better before taking the next stage exam.
   • A total of three attempts is permitted to meet the 80% requirement; if all three attempts result in a grade of 79% or below, the student must meet with the Chief Instructor, who will determine whether the student will be allowed to continue, any additional ground instruction required, and whether the student will be eligible for endorsement for the FAA Knowledge test.
2. A student fails an FAA Airman Knowledge Test twice (failure to pass a particular test on the second attempt).
3. A student fails a total of any three FAA Airman Knowledge Tests.
4. A student is absent for a semester and was not granted a leave of absence or did not submit a written request for withdrawal from the College of Math and Science.
5. A student does not complete program requirements within 6 years of initial enrollment in the Professional Pilot program (the program is limited to full-time, day students).
6. A student fails an FAA-administered practical examination twice (failure to pass a particular exam on the second attempt).Rare exceptions to this rule will be considered by the Department Chair, on a case-by-case basis.
7. A student fails a total of any three FAA-administered practical examinations.
8. A student fails to sufficiently progress through flight training to meet flight laboratory time constraints and achieve a “pass” on co-requisite labs (AERN 161L, 162L, 261L, 271L, 371L, 372L, 461L, 491L) by the end of the semester, to include any additional time afforded the student due to an “incomplete” grade.The Department Chair, under advisement of assigned flight instructors and the Chief Instructor, will determine if the deficiency is due to piloting skills or circumstances beyond the student’s control.
9. A student violates aviation industry-professional standards, demonstrates unprofessional conduct (including behaviors that are associated with lateral violence to a faculty member or classmate), or demonstrates behavior that indicates unsafe practice.A student is automatically dismissed from the Professional Pilot program upon receiving a third code of conduct violation.

A student dismissed from the program for any reason is not eligible for readmission.

Note:

All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
