MPAS 562 - Problem-Based Learning III (1 hours) Prerequisites: Successful completion of Units 1, 2, and 3 of the didactic year. This 12-week course in Unit 4 of the fall semester is the third in a three-course series that meets twice weekly and is designed in an open learning format to encourage small group and individual discovery by using case presentations to engage students, stimulate inquiry, and develop skills in hypothesis formulation, critical thinking, and problem-solving while engaging in a peer learning team environment. Students are presented with progressively disclosed medical case information to work through, acquiring and distinguishing pertinent information, synthesizing clinical information in various contextually significant dynamic patient scenarios, and creating management plans. By design, the course will foster and develop collaborative learning, peer teaching, interpersonal communication, leadership skills, collaboration, and high-level reasoning strategies. This course will focus on topics related to nephrology, OB/GYN, orthopedics, rheumatology, neurology, and psychiatry across the lifespan, including prenatal, neonatal, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and the elderly. Note: This course cannot be challenged.
