MPAS 542 - Patient Assessment & Diagnostic Methods III (2 hours) Prerequisites: Successful completion of Units 1, 2, and 3 of the didactic year. This 12-week course in Unit 4 of the fall semester is the third in a three-course series designed to introduce students to the art of history taking and the techniques of physical exams. This course will meet twice weekly and consist of interactive lectures, large and small groups, team-based activities, and laboratory formats using lab partners, simulated patients, and task trainers. Focus will be placed on instruction on the proper use of diagnostic equipment, and students will be introduced to ordering and interpreting diagnostic imaging and laboratory results. Students will also learn to synthesize and present patient information as part of the medical decision-making team. This course will focus on nephrology, OBGYN, genitourinary, musculoskeletal, neurologic, and psychiatric units in complement to the information learned in the clinical medicine course. Note: This course cannot be challenged.
