MPAS 510 - The Path to Becoming a PA I (1 hours) Prerequisites: Successful completion of Unit 1 of the didactic year. This 12-week virtual and asynchronous course in Unit 2 of the spring semester is the first in a three-course series designed to facilitate the student’s transition into the medical profession and introduction to PA professional practice issues. Topics taught include academic integrity/intellectual honesty/professional conduct; self-analysis and emotional intelligence; the history of the PA profession/professional organizations; credentialing/licensure/certification for the PA profession; medical ethics; malpractice/conflict of interest/impaired provider; PA relationship with healthcare team; professional practice laws and regulations; policy issues impacting practice; medicolegal issues; healthcare disparities across vulnerable populations; cultural competency and humility; healthcare literacy, and introduction to mindfulness for providers. Note: This course cannot be challenged.
