MSOM 633 - Cost Management (3 hours) This course serves to provide students a foundation in cost management and how it relates to operations management. Concepts are presented in a step-by-step format with a focus on the how, why, and what ifs of cost management. Specific topics of examination include product and service costing; process costing; standard costing; activity-based costing; budgeting; allocations; the balanced scorecard; quality, environmental, and inventory cost management; capital investment; and lean accounting. The course combines theory and application to provide an up-to-date, practical learning opportunity that focuses on the needs of modern managers and professionals in an age of global competition and rapid technological change. Character and operational excellence principles related to management activities are also explored and applied.
