SPAN 335 - Latin American Culture and Civilization

(3 hours) Prerequisites: SPAN 202. This course is an invitation to reflect on the history and cultures of Latin America.  We are presented with a cultural journey of extraordinary diversity and contradiction brought about by the dimensions and implications of the integration of cultural elements into each unique region of this vast continent.  We will explore the politics, social structures, traditions, artistic movements, faith, and history periods of Latin America.  The scope of the course cover the main pre-Columbian civilizations, the time of the Spanish discovery and colonization period, the start of new nationalities, and the projection of them in the present and last century with relation to the United States and the emerging globalized world.
