KINE 403 - Practical/Applied Strength and Conditioning


(3 hours) Prerequisites: BIOL 227/227L, KINE 101, KINE 216, KINE 308/308L, KINE 370. The course is designed to provide students with  knowledge of exercise techniques (e.g., movement preparation), resistance training techniques (e.g., free weight training), Olympic weight lifting and plyometric exercises, speed/sprint technique and agility technique. In addition, energy systems development (i.e., aerobic and anaerobic conditioning activities), recovery techniques, program design (e.g., needs analysis), exercise progression, periodization models and concepts as well as testing and evaluation will be addressed. Appropriate administration of testing and implementation of monitoring protocols and procedures along with organization/administration (e.g., design layout, and organization of strength and conditioning facility), professional practice (e.g.,common litigation issues) will also be covered. This course follows guidelines from the National Strength & Conditioning Association to prepare students for the practical/applied section of the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). This course cannot be challenged.
