THEA 324 - Acting the Song


(3 hours) Prerequisites: MUSI 15132, Studio Voice or permission of the instructor. Acting the Song includes the study of opera and Musical Theatre literature as they relate to performance practice. The course is designed to improve engagement in and preparation for performances that involve singing. It will emphasize the development of a performer’s ability to embrace music as a means of conveying and rounding out character choices that engage the performer and, subsequently, the audience. Singer-actors and actor-singers will develop a number of scenes and selections from various genres as applied to their vocal ability and program of study. The course will include multiple aspects of instruction in characterization and musical preparation of literature, pursuit of clear objectives, audition techniques, and utilization of text and context. This course cannot be challenged.
