Cybersecurity (BS Degree)

A major in Cybersecurity consists of 61 semester hours and does not require a minor. If a student chooses a minor, they may not choose Applied Computing tracks Computer Programming and/or Cybersecurity.

The Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Computer Science (49 hours) + Criminal Justice (12 hours) + Liberal Arts Core (49 hours)

Liberal Arts Core (49 hours):

See Liberal Arts Core (LAC) for all bachelor degrees ; must include the following courses:
CSCI 235 - Procedural Programming (4 hours) for the Computer and Information Sciences requirement.
MATH 221 - Calculus I (4 hours) or higher. Students lacking an appropriate mathematics background may be required to take
MATH 110/ MATH 111 College Algebra and /or MATH 130 Precalculus prior to enrolling in MATH 221.
CRIM 210 - Introduction to Criminal Justice (3 hours)

Foreign Language requirement (hours included above)

Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201. If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit. Note that this placement does not count toward the required 120 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students.

Choose one of the following courses:

ARAB 110 and 110L, 120, 201, or 202 or
FREN 110 and 110L, 120, 201, or 202 or
SPAN 110, 111 or 112 and 110L, 101, 102, 120, 201, or 202 or
CHST 121, 122, 131, or 132 or
Any other 3 hour foreign language course.

Portfolio

The purpose of CSCI 496 - Senior Portfolio Review is to determine if the student has the appropriate course depth in introductory CSCI coursework to begin his/her senior project series. The BS student shall create a portfolio that must include: (1) at least three papers on ethical, legal, or social issues in computing, (2) at least four programs and (3) at least two presentations. In the case where courses were transferred and programs are no longer available, the faculty may ask for material from other classes.

Graduation Credit Hour Requirements

All students must earn a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate.
Students who have taken MATH 099 or ENGL 099 must complete at least 124 credit hours.
Students who have taken both MATH 099 and ENGL 099 must complete at least 128 credit hours.
All students must also satisfy the Residency Requirements as outlined in this catalog.
