A major in Biology with a Medical Laboratory Science Emphasis consists of 89 hours and does not require a minor. Students must earn grades of “C” or better in courses counting towards the major. Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201. If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit. Note that this placement does not count toward the required 125 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students. Choose one of the following courses:
- ARAB 101, 110 and 110L, 102, 120. 201, 202
- FREN 101, 110 and 110L, 102, 120, 201, 202
- SPAN 101, 110, 111 or 112 and 110L, 102, 120, 201, 202
- CHST 121, 122, 131, 132 or
- Any other 3 hour foreign language course
Major Studies (54 hours) at Charleston Southern University
Major Studies (35 hours) at the Medical University of South Carolina
Note:
Students will be required to satisfactorily complete the Clinical Medical Laboratory Practicum Experience at approved off-site clinical settings to be admitted to clinical work. The Medical Lab Sciences Coordinator must approve any students who wish to sign up for the Practicum Experience; students should contact the coordinator for additional information. Note that students must satisfactorily complete the courses at Charleston Southern University, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the Clinical Medical Laboratory Practicum Experience to sit for the ASCP MLS certification.
Note:
All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements described in this catalog.
