Applied Mathematics (BS Degree)

A major in Applied Mathematics consists of 70 hours and does not require a minor.

This major is available only to students participating in the Applied Math/Engineering program. Please refer to the section on the Applied Math/Engineering Program  for further information on the degree program requirements.

Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201.  If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit.  Note that this placement does not count toward the required 125 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students. Choose one of the following courses:

  • ARAB 101, 110 and 110L, 102, 120. 201, 202
  • FREN 101, 110 and 110L, 102, 120, 201, 202
  • SPAN 101, 110, 111 or 112 and 110L, 102, 120, 201, 202
  • CHST 121, 122, 131, 132 or
  • Any other 3 hour foreign language course

Required Supporting Studies (20 hours)


Note:


The engineering courses taken during a student’s first full year at the cooperating institution will be applied toward the remaining hours needed to complete degree requirements in the Mathematics Department at Charleston Southern University.  Any additional hours needed to meet the Bachelor of Science requirement of 125 (minimum) semester hours will also come from courses taken at the cooperating institution.  These may be accepted either as additional mathematics electives or general electives.

Note:


All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
