Mission Statement

The Charleston Southern University Kinesiology program mission is to provide our students with coursework which provides exceptional understanding regarding exercise physiology and human movement as it relates to preventing chronic disease, as well as maintaining and enhancing health and performance. Thus, they can develop into competent and caring allied health professionals who will champion a healthier and more active lifestyle. The department is committed to providing student-centered learning in a Christian environment as well as internship and experiential opportunities that prepare students to excel in clinical, private, and commercial settings or graduate studies.

The goals of the Kinesiology program include:

  • Attract and retain highly motivated, qualified, and supportive faculty who model standards of high achievement, leadership and maintain contemporary knowledge of best practices in various allied healthcare.
  • Continue to develop curriculums that meet the rapidly that meet the needs of various allied healthcare settings (e.g., clinical and private) and prepare students for graduate studies in physical and occupational therapy as well as exercise physiology and strength and conditioning.
  • Encourage students, faculty, and other constituents to conduct their personal and professional lives according to biblical principles and to glorify God in all that they do.
  • Facilitate the development of our students’ ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and function successfully in culturally diverse settings.
  • Assist students in academic and career planning, and to establish lifelong mentoring relationships.
  • Establish mutually beneficial relationships with the allied healthcare community and other professional organizations.
