AERN 282 - Human Factors in ATC (3 hour(s)) Prerequisites: AERN 250. An undergraduate course in the study of human performance factors that shape safe and efficient air traffic control in tower and en route environments. Students study cognition, attention, workload, situation awareness, and decision-making in controller tasks. Topics include communication, teamwork, training, fatigue, shift work, and stress management. The course connects human factors theory to documented incidents, errors, and resilient performance. Students evaluate interfaces, procedures, and automation from a controller-centered design perspective. The course prepares students to integrate human factors principles into future procedures, labs, and professional practice.
