EDUC 426 - Middle Grades and Secondary Mathematics Curriculum and Methods


(3 hour(s)) Prerequisite: Admission to the College of Education and EDUC 325 and SPED 361 with a grade of “C” of better. Corequisites: Education 417. Should be taken the semester prior to clinical practice.  Study of secondary mathematics curriculum and methods. Emphasis on planning for instruction and on implementing instructional strategies in the secondary mathematics classroom. Examination of the national and South Carolina frameworks and curriculum standards for mathematics as well as research findings regarding effective teaching strategies in the secondary mathematics classroom. Using the Expanded ADEPT Evaluation System candidates will construct long- and short-range plans. A 20-hour practicum is required. Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to assigned sites. This course cannot be challenged. Note: Offered: Fall. Counts for ELR credit.
