HIST 426 - The History of Motion Pictures in America

(3 hours) Prerequisites: HIST 211 or HIST 212. Since the development of motion picture technology in the late 19th century, movies have been a powerful force in American culture and society.  This course will study the development of motion pictures as an art form, business, and cultural concept in the 20th century.  In doing so, we will look at how movies both mirrored and molded American society.  This will be done by both examining the history of motion pictures, and watching and discussing key movies released throughout the 20th century.  This course cannot be challenged.
