Biology: General Emphasis (BS Degree)

A major in Biology with a General Emphasis consists of 53 hours; 49 semester hours in Biology courses and the required 4 hours of supporting studies and does not require a minor. Courses from other departments are also required as shown below.

Biology: General Emphasis (53 hours) + Liberal Arts Core (47 hours)

Note:


All students placed in ENGL 099 and/or MATH 099 must complete the course(s) successfully before being allowed into BIOL 161 and BIOL 161L.

Foreign Language requirement (hours included above)


Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201.  If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit.  Note that this placement does not count toward the required 125 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students. Choose one of the following courses:

  • ARAB 110 and 110L, 120. 201, 202
  • FREN 110 and 110L, 120, 201, 202
  • SPAN 110, 111 or 112 and 110L, 102, 201, 202
  • CHST 121, 122, 131, 132 or
  • Any other 3 hour foreign language course

Required Biology Electives (29 hours):


Students must take an additional twenty nine hours of Biology classes. Students may only use 4 hours of research toward their Biology electives. Biol 110 is not an approved elective.

Required Supporting Studies (4 hours):


Note:


All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
