Middle Grades Education (BS degree)

A major in Middle Grades Education consists of 42 hours plus an additional 21- 30 hours earned in two choosen concentrations and does not require a minor. A grade of “C” or better is required in all major studies courses.

Middle Grades Education (42 hours) + Two Concentrations (21-30) + Liberal Arts Core (47 hours)


Foreign Language requirement (hours included above)


Students are required to take a minimum of 3 credit hours but are not required to progress past FL 202 (Intermediate II) if the student places higher than FL 201.  If a student places higher than 202, the student has completed her/his required FL credit.  Note that this placement does not count toward the required 125 hours (may vary according to degree) required of all CSU students. Choose one of the following courses:

  • ARAB 101, 102. 201, 202
  • FREN 101, 102, 201, 202
  • SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202
  • CHST 121, 122, 131, 132 or
  • Any other 3 hour foreign language course

Language Arts (21 hours*)


(*12 Hours for ENGL 111, 112, 202 and COMM 110 are counted in the Liberal Arts Core,  and 9 hours of approved English electives listed below)

Mathematics (16/17 hours*)


(*3/4 hours for MATH 110/111 are counted in the Liberal Arts Core, and 13 hours of Math Electives)

Social Studies (21 hours*)


(*9 hours for HIST 111, 211 and POLI 101 are counted in the Liberal Arts Core, and 12 hours of approved Social Studies electives)

Science (24 hours*)


(* 8 hours for BIOL 149, 149L and GEOL 100 are counted in the Liberal Arts Core, and 16 hours approved science electives listed below)

Note:


All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
