Music and Worship Leadership (BA Degree)

The major of Music and Worship Leadership consists of a minimum of 62 - 63 hours and requires a minor. A minimum grade of “C” must be earned in all courses listed under major studies, with the exception of Studio Lessons, where a minimum grade of “B” must be earned.” Students must apply and be accepted into the Horton School of Music.

Music and Worship Leadership (62 - 63 hours) + Liberal Arts Core (47 hours)


Liberal Arts Core must include the following (47 hours)


Major Studies (62 - 63 hours)


Musicianship and Harmonic Practices Core (35 or 36 hours)


  • MUSI 100 - Admitted to the Horton School of Music (0 hours)
  • MUSI 198 - Musicianship I (4 hours)
  • MUSI 199 - Musicianship II (4 hours)
  • MUSI 301 - Elementary Conducting (2 hours)
  • MUSI 372 - Music History and Literature II (3 hours)
  • 6 semesters of a Primary Instrument (6 hours) Students can choose Voice, Piano, or Guitar/Strings/Brass/Woodwinds/Percussion as their primary instrument. Students selecting Voice Primary will take Piano or Guitar as the secondary instrument. Students who select Piano/Guitar/Strings/Brass/Woodwind/Percussion, as a Primary Instrument must take Voice as the Secondary Instrument. (MUSI 281 or 282; students who choose voice as their primary instrument may use   , or   for up to one credit/semester of study)
  • 6 semesters of Secondary Instrument (6 hours) Students can choose Voice, Piano, or Guitar/Strings/Brass/Woodwinds/Percussion as their primary instrument. Students selecting Voice Primary will take Piano or Guitar as the secondary instrument. Students selecting Piano or Guitar/Strings/Brass/Woodwind/ Percussion, as a Primary Instrument must take Voice as the Secondary Instrument. (MUS 181 or 182; students who chose Guitar or Piano as their primary instrument must choose voice as their secondary instrument. Students who choose voice as their secondary instrument may use   - or   as one credit/semester of study as partial fulfillment of this requirement; students who chose Piano as their secondary instrument may include 4 credits of Group Piano I, II, III, IV as partial fulfillment of this requirement.)
  • 10 hours of Ensembles to include:
  • - 4 credits (gender or mixed choral Ensembles; MUSI 121-34, -58,  or -59)

  • - 6 credits minimum of MUSI 121  61 Elevate Worship and/or 62 Total Praise Choir

  • MUSI 094-52 - Guitar Proficiency for Music & Worship Leadership (0 hours)
  • or

  • MUSI 252 30 - Group Piano IV (1 hours)

Note:


All students must have at least 125 hours to graduate. Students who took MATH 099 or ENGL 099 will need at least 129 hours to graduate. Full Bridge students will need at least 133 hours. Students must meet the Residency Requirements  described in this catalog.
