PSYC 504 - Human Growth and Development


(3 hours) Prerequisites: Admission to the MS Program. The exploration of seminal theories of human development, including Freud, Erikson, Piaget, Gibson, and the Information Processing perspective.  Students will learn the distinguishing features of the different theoretical perspectives and evaluate how these theories influence practice in applied settings. Including, but not limited to understanding the nature and needs of individuals at all developmental levels, maturational and structural theories of human development; strategies to deal with developmental processes and transitions; environmental, contextual and multicultural factors that contribute to healthy human development. The course will examine the impact of poverty and wealth on human development.
