Charleston Southern University offers a variety of degree and non-degree programs designed for the adult learner. The College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) offers an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management (BSOM). Degree completion time will depend upon a student’s enrollment status at the time of acceptance and the number of approved transfer credit hours from a regionally accredited institution.

The degree is 125 credit hours and consists of three categories of credit: Liberal Arts Core, Major, and Interdisciplinary Electives. With the exception of MATH 105 (which is a full semester in length) all BSOM courses are 7-weeks in length. All CAPS courses are online and offered in an asynchronous format through Blackboard. Students are not required to meet at a specific time during a course. Students who are required to take on ground courses to meet veterans’ benefit regulations may do so to ensure compliance with VA benefits; these exceptions must first be approved by the Admissions/Recruiting Coordinator. All other students must take the BSOM courses online.

Credit previously earned at CSU will be appropriately placed into the Liberal Arts Core, Interdisciplinary Electives, or BSOM Major. Once a student is enrolled, all courses must be taken at Charleston Southern University unless approved for transfer by the University Registrar.

Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management Admission:

Admission Requirements:

  1. Complete an application for admission to Charleston Southern University and indicate a preference to enroll in the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS).

  2. Submit official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher learning. If a student does not have 24 hours of transferable credit (to include Math and English) and a 2.0 GPA, the student must submit their high school transcript or GED.

  3. The student should be 20 years of age or older and have work experience.

Other BSOM requirements:

In addition to the Major Studies requirements of 51 hours and Liberal Arts Core hours of 47 hours, this degree requires 27 additional credit hours in Interdisciplinary Electives (Total = 125).  Interdisciplinary Electives can include credit hours earned at Charleston Southern University, transferred from previously attended institutions, or hours approved from the following forms of Nontraditional Credit:

  • CSU Challenge Exams

  • CLEP Exams

  • EXCELSIOR Exams

  • DANTES Exams

  • Advanced Placement (AP) credit

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) credit

  • Military credit

  • Professional licensure/certification (BSOM students only)

    • On a case-by-case basis and a review by the VP of Academic Affairs, students may apply for credit hours based on accredited certifications approved by the VPAA for credit hours toward Interdisciplinary Elective credits, not to exceed 12 hours or 4 courses. Fifteen approved certification hours will be equivalent to one (1) hour of college credit.

  • Corporate and employer sponsored training programs (BSOM students only)

    • Must be recommended for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and/or the National Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction (PONSI).

Commercial Reimbursement Guidelines:

Students attending Charleston Southern University have the option of participating in the commercial reimbursement program. In order to have a student account flagged as commercial reimbursement, a letter must be provided for each academic semester including the following:

  • Student’s full legal name

  • Courses that payment will be applied to ( This may include the start and end date of the course)

  • Contact name and telephone number of persons responsible for payment

It is understood that many companies have grade requirements in order to provide payment. This letter will ensure no penalty is placed on the account for nonpayment until after the semester has ended and grades can be reported to such companies. At that time a hold will be placed on the account and registration will be delayed until payment is received once the semester is complete.
